Just a Teassssssssssse
I finally started work on my next large piece which will incorporate actual paper mache’ masks. I’m so excited about this piece that I thought I’d reveal some of the components as they are completed. I must warn you that I will not give away my final intent until the entire piece is completed. I hope the final painting does justice to my vision. Adding the three-dimensionality of the masks creates new challenges that I look forward to exploring. More on that in later posts…
This snake’s portrait is all of the painting I’ve completed so far. I placed the mask on the canvas beside it so you can get a sense of its scale. The final painting will be 36″x24″ and there is a LOT of white canvas left for me to attack. And on that note, I’m back at it…

I like it already. Can’t wait to see the final painting.

My mind is galloping… I have my own ideas about where I would go. I can’t wait to see how you resolve this little twosome.
Oh! Another cliff-hanging, nail-biting post. I need some valium to deal with your blog, Don (just kidding!). Although I dislike snakes, I really like the way you’ve rendered this one and can’t even imagine where you’re going with it. I also like a good mystery, and I’ll await the results with unbridled an-ti-ci-pa-tion!
Hey Don, this is looking awesome already. I want to wish you a fantastic New Year and continued blessings in 2010.
The snake is awesome–I’ve always felt sorry for them (every bird and squirrel screams when one is nearby). They are here for a reason: I’ll wait for your reason.
Mark… Thanks! Me either…
Margaret… After I finish I’d love to hear what ideas you had at this point.
Kathy… Thanks! You made me think of Lou Reed’s “Take a Walk on the Wild Side” – val-i-um woulda’ helped that bash… More clues to the mystery will be unveiled soon.
Sheila… Thanks and Happy New Year to you!
Hallie… Thank you. I had to smile at your comment. A lot of people scream when one is nearby, also. You’re right, they are here for a reason, I just hope you like my reason when this painting is done.
