Heart Progress and Lemon Zotz

January 20th, 2012

I’m in the home stretch of my Ginormous Heart marathon. I hope to have it finished by Monday. We’ll see…

Meanwhile, this is where it was yesterday when I called it quits for the day:

Ginormous Heart is Progress

I did quite a bit more on it today, but I’ve decided that I will not be showing anymore updates until the final unveiling.

Today was also my demo day at Michael’s. I used it as an opportunity to work on the last of my Eye Candy: Zotz mini-series.

I really fought this one, and totally hated it while I was working on it. After giving it a few hours and looking at it again I’ve now decided it is the best one in the series. Go figure…

Now I think I’ll call it a day. Tomorrow will be a new day made just for painting. I can’t wait…

Happy Creating!

Don, thanks so much for sharing your progress on your heart! Totally impressive and there’s no doubt it’s a Michael! I’m with you on your latest mini, it’s a good one. It seems the ones that fall apart right in the middle or the ones that give us a fit are going to be the good ones… ya, go figure!

    Awesome work, man!

The heart is well on it’s way and I look forward to the final unveiling.

Lemon Zotz is stunning… is the mask wearing a sequin mask? I love how you treated the area around the eyes. And the reflected light of the yellow fabric on the mask takes it to that next level.

Douglas… It’s been a pleasure sharing about this project. If in the process we can generate extra attention to this wonderful cause, then all the better. Thank you!

Nicki… I made even more progress today and really look forward to sharing it soon. Lemon Zotz is wearing a ‘mask’, but it’s a shiny, textured, metallic surface that I created on it. Thanks!

How can a painting with no eyeballs have an icy stare? That’s what I see in Lemon Zotz; my guess is she thinks she’s better than the others (and you seem to agree). I await the unveiling.

Hallie… I know what you mean. It’s been an interesting exercise to create attitude and emotion with ‘eyeless’ masks through shadow pattern, color and composition. I don’t know how it works specifically. I just know it works somehow. I think the thing I like about her the best in this mini-series is that very attitude. The others seem tame in comparison.

Mysterious heart – aren’t they all? – when you add the mask. Can’t wait to see the whole thing.

I love hearing your description of how much you hated the Zotz painting, and finally you love it. That is about the best description of process that I’ve ever heard! She is a fine addition to the series, though she looks disgusted with the process herself. The effect of light on the mask is superb.

Love the reflection of yellow on her chin and bottom edge of the eye mask, Don!
Your Ginormous is coming along great!

Dan… Great comment! Thanks. I agree that the masks add a sense of mystery to the heart. Lemon Zotz WAS a struggle, but the end result was worth it. You’re right about this being a microcosm of the creative process. Maybe it’s best that LEMON was the last of the series. Thankfully, she didn’t entirely sour me to the process. :-D

Dean… Thanks! I really enjoy those reflections as well. It’s a fun part of this series is playing with the lighting and reflections.
